or 414.364.1596 LaMarche Invites the Vice President to Join her "Left Out Tour" Green Party vice presidential candidate Pat LaMarche will lead an all-night vigil outside of the vice president's Washington, DC residence on Saturday, September 25, starting at 2 p.m., as part of her two week "Left Out Tour" which is designed to bring attention to people living in homeless shelters, on the streets and without health insurance. "I'm taking my Left Out Tour to the vice president's home to challenge Mr. Cheney to tell the America people what he plans to do to provide them with a living wage and universal health care. Mr. Cheney has had four years to address poverty issues and it seems to me he hasn't done much at all. If he wants to hang on to his job, he should be concerned about the people who have lost theirs," said LaMarche, a former gubernatorial candidate and a single mother of two children. LaMarche's visit to DC is the fifth stop on her two week Left Out Tour. On each night of the Tour, LaMarche will sleep either in a homeless or domestic violence shelter or on the streets to draw attention to the least privileged members of our society. In Boston, LaMarche spent a frightening night on the streets with homeless people. In Providence, she will spend the night in a tent city set up across from the Rhode Island Statehouse. "The reason for the Left Out Tour is to focus on people who are left out in our society and more importantly, to demonstrate things we can do to help them," said LaMarche. During the tour LaMarche will ask people to donate the following items to the shelters she visits or to shelters in their communities: tooth paste, toothbrushes, shaving cream, razors, deodorant, shampoo, baby powder, band-aids, first aid cream, used and new books -- especially children's books, feminine hygiene products, towels and blankets. "If I get the chance to speak to Mr. Cheney, I'll invite him to join me on the Left Out Tour. The best leaders are those who lend their power to those less fortunate. Mr. Cheney could get a first-hand education about the challenges millions of people who are unemployed and underemployed and who don't have homes and health insurance are facing. Our goal should be to transform these least privileged members of our society into self-sustaining individuals," said LaMarche. "But if I don't get a chance to talk to Mr. Cheney, I won't be surprised, and neither will the people I'm trying to represent," concluded LaMarche. A nonprofit foundation director and one of the most popular radio broadcasters in Maine, LaMarche has found kidneys for dying children, raised money for poverty-stricken youth, and helped to garner support for relief crews after September 11, 2001.
