GREEN CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATES ISSUE A '2004 UNITY STATEMENT'

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Green Party candidates for Congress have issued a 'Green Party 2004 Unity Statement', featuring a list of progressive and ecological positions on vital issues in the 2004 election.

The 27 candidates, organized as the Coordinated Congressional Campaign, address topics that most Republican and Democratic candidates have ignored., including the need for single-payer national health insurance, decisive steps to prevent global warming (such as rejoining the Kyoto agreement), and repeal of the USA Patriot Act.

The statement's call to "Get the U.S. out of Iraq" is consistent with the Green Party's outspoken opposition to the invasion and occupation. The text of the statement is appended below.

430 Green candidates have declared so far in 2004. Greens are running races in 40 States, for 74 different kinds of offices. As of mid September, Green candidates have won 29 elections in 2004.
