Green Party Vice Presidential Candidate Pat
LaMarche is Joining the Marines.
The 43 year old mother of two has accepted an
invitation to train with Marine recruits at Boot Camp in Parris Island,
South Carolina on October 27 and 28 as part of program for community
leaders and educators to learn more about military training procedures.
LaMarche, a long-time radio broadcaster and
community activist was invited because of the work her radio alter ego,
Genny Judge, has done for the people of Maine.
"I've worked for many years with the Maine Army
National Guard and with the Air Guard to provide support for the people
of Maine who have needed it. For almost fifteen years we've worked
together on 'missions' that provided medical care for injured and sick
children, food for the hungry and support for critical city and
nonprofit programs which wouldn't have been able to function without our
help," said LaMarche.
LaMarche made clear that by supporting the men and
women in uniform, she is not supporting the policies of their
commander-in-chief.
"I'm a long-time supporter of the men and women
who are willing to serve their communities, their families and their
country. I hope the work I do in this campaign and elsewhere will
increase their chances of serving safely and returning home to their
loved ones as soon as possible," said LaMarche.
LaMarche will be available on October 28 and 29 from
6-7 a.m., EST, to discuss her training experiences. To schedule an
interview, contact Cobb-LaMarche Media Director Blair Bobier at
541.929.5755.
