WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Green Party of the United States awaits the
decision of the 6-member Federal Election Commission (FEC) on the
party's request for recognition as a national party with national
committee status. FEC staff have recommended a favorable response to the
Commission, which will announce a decision based on this recommendation
on Thursday, November 8.
"The Green Party has met all conditions required of previously
recognized national committees and is confident of a positive
response," said Green Party Media Coordinator Scott McLarty, who
will be at the hearing to meet press and to distribute the party's press
release on the decision.
The Green Party of the United States is the national political
organization of the Greens, in which 33 states are represented, with
other states considering or applying for membership. It organized the
Green National Convention in Denver in June, 2000, at which Ralph Nader
was nominated to run for President, and is recognized among Green
Parties around the world.
