Rationale for these revisions to the Platform:
We have long known that Animal Farming contributes greatly to Greenhouse Gasses, and that the Methane from ruminant animals is hugely more disastrous than CO2 emissions. It is fortunate that by eliminating methane production, there is a rapid decrease in Greenhouse Gas. Cutting methane emissions is the fastest opportunity we have to immediately slow the rate of global warming, even as we decarbonize our energy systems. Methane has more than 80 times the warming power of carbon dioxide over the first 20 years after it reaches the atmosphere. Even though CO2 has a longer-lasting effect, methane sets the pace for warming in the near term. Therefore, if we truly want to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 95% by 2050 over 1990 levels, then it is necessary to end the use of animals in farming. Additionally, the land/water resources used; the pollution of our waterways; and global biodiversity loss to raise domestic animals, regardless of the methods used, for food is immense.

when this came before the NC, I replied that , as a vegetarian, claiming that cows are the main contributor to methane in the air is basically siding with the polluting corporations. I am all for eating less meat but eliminating animals from farming production is not going to affect all the pollution caused by cars, farming equipment (which throughout anthrocentric time, humans have used animals, such as horses, mules, donkeys, goats, etc in farming. Their manure is essential in conditioning and fertilizing the soil and their walking on the soil also contributes to the soils health. Without getting too much into agriculture, adding manure helps the soil in raising it’s organic level (insects, usable fertilers for the plants to grow healthy and strong.
Using animals in farming does not imply that they are mistreated or eaten.I cannot support this.
Iam all for animal rights and not eating animls but i am also very into people being self-sufficient and not relying on synthic additives for farming (which , by eliminating animals, you force). Be kind to your animals but let them live their lives grazing grasses in fields.
