2003 National Conference – Coordinated Campaign Committee letter

June 10, 2003

Dear GPUS Coordinating Committee delegates and alternates,

The Coordinated Campaign Committee (CCC) is proud to announce two exciting programs to support Green candidates.

Targeted Campaign Resources Program: We established this program to fulfill the CCC’s primary mission — to support Green electoral campaigns. Possible available resources include special promotions on Green websites and in newsletters and mailings; special calls for volunteers or mobilization of volunteers to particular campaigns; and special fundraising efforts.

Campaign Staff Matching Funds Program: In a grassroots campaign, people power makes the difference. Having a staff person who can dedicate him or herself full-time to winning can push a Green candidate into office. The CCC has therefore established a fund that will match money raised by individual campaigns, up to a maximum amount of $500, towards the expenses of campaign staff. The amount currently allocated to this program in 2003 is $5,000. The aim of this program is to assist small campaigns without access to strong state, regional or local Green Party support, where a relatively small amount of matching funds for staff will make a significant difference.

Campaigns must complete and submit our campaign questionnaire in order to be considered for targeted campaign resources or staff matching funds. CCC members evaluate the questionnaires and make resource allocation decisions. The Resources Subcommittee of the CCC administers the programs and makes recommendations to the CCC. Members of the subcommittee are elected from the CCC.

For those of you who are not familiar with our work, the CCC’s mission is to coordinate and support of federal, state, and local Green Party electoral campaigns. In our mandate, we are required to track Green Party candidates and identify campaigns deserving of financial and non-financial support of the U.S. Green Party. These two new programs are instrumental elements of our work. The CCC began discussions about the programs began in March 2002 and approved the programs on March 1, 2003 by consensus.

Enclosed are two program-related documents: (1) the campaign questionnaire and (2) CCC procedures for administering the programs. The documents are very comprehensive.

We are submitting these materials to you so you can share them with your state party and look them over in preparation for the National Meeting. The CCC will host a question and answer session on these programs. The materials are also available on-line at http://www.gp.org/committees/campaign/index.html. Applications for the first round of campaign staff matching funds are due on July 20.

We look forward to working with you and your state parties to help candidates build stronger and more successful campaigns.

Sincerely,
The CCC Resources Subcommittee:
